Established in 1998, the Amber Grant was created buy womensnet.com with the purpose of honoring a special woman, Amber, who unfortunately passed away at the age of 19 before her entrepreneurial dreams came to fruition. Now, every month, The Amber Foundation gives out a $2,000 grant to one business-owning woman. At the end of the year, another grant of $25,000 is awarded. If you are one of the monthly $2,000 grant winners, you will automatically be entered to be chosen for the $25,000 end-of-year grant. This means you could possibly walk away with a total of $27,000 in total grant money!
How to Apply for The Amber Grant
You must be at least eighteen years of age and your business must be located in either the USA or Canada to be eligible. There is a small $15 fee associated with the application process which makes the grant and operation of the site possible.
Another thing to note is that if you happen to own more than one business, you can apply more than once per month, but it must be for a different business each time.
During the application, you will be asked to describe your business in detail. This is your chance to tell your story. All decisions are based upon the answers given in your application. Explain what it is that your company does and even list some challenges that you have and/or are overcoming now. You will also be asked to describe what exactly you would do with the grant money should you receive it.
Tips on Applying
When applying, keep in mind that grant winners are chosen by the Womensnet advisory board. They are looking for women who believe in what they are doing and who can make them believe, too. Be sure to share your passion, vision, and business savviness.
One cool factor about the voting process is that the public is involved. Anyone can go here to read through women’s stories and cast their vote. The judges will consider these votes in their decision. These stories can also help you to see what the judges are looking for in applicants. Be sure to take notes on how these women talk about their businesses.
For example, the May 2018 winner was Veronica Crafton, owner of Amazingly Uplifted. She offers a consulting and in-home therapy service to help educators, children, and families. She is driven by her love for children with autism and her realization that support for them is lacking in the education system. The name of the business is meant to describe how the children she has worked with have inspired her as an educator. She plans to use the grant money to start a scholarship for families who can’t afford her services, pay for office space, and purchase materials.
An Excellent Opportunity for Single Mothers with a Business
This foundation has been in business for twenty years and has an excellent reputation. If you are a single mother who owns a small business in the USA or Canada, then this is an excellent opportunity to win some cash and give your business the boost it needs. There is one small drawback with the Amber Grant and that is that there is a small application fee ($15), for each time you wish to apply. On the other hand, this is a great cause to support and the grant money is pretty awesome, too.
